The NFL just released offseason workout dates -- rookie minicamp, organized team activities and mandatory minicamp -- for all 32 teams.

For the San Francisco 49ers, who selected eight rookies in the 2026 NFL Draft, they'll welcome their crop of first-year pros to an inaugural camp at the beginning of May.

From there, the Niners will kick off OTAs, followed by a mandatory minicamp.

49ers offseason schedule

  • Rookie minicamp: May 8-9
  • Organized team activities: May 27-29, June 1, June 3-4
  • Mandatory minicamp: June 9-10

Rookies, several second-year pros and camp invitees will attend rookie minicamp, followed by a voluntary OTA group of sessions.

San Francisco's full roster will be expected when mandatory minicamp kicks off roughly a week after OTAs conclude.

While there'll unquestionably be reactions and overreactions to how players perform during these padless (and thereby contact-less) workouts, head coach Kyle Shanahan has long stressed the true competition won't begin until the 49ers begin training camp toward the end of July.

That said, for players trying to carve out roles on a crowded depth chart, underwhelming during these initial offseason practices won't exactly help much.

A storyline that might be modestly humorous to watch is whether or not the electrical substation next to the Niners' practice facility will garner the kind of attention it received toward the end of last year when it became a prominent discussion point.

A season removed from that chatter, it won't be surprising if it's brought up again, especially by a rookie who had little choice but to head out and observe the substation firsthand.
