The San Francisco 49ers are facing arguably a slightly tougher challenge ahead of final roster cuts ahead of Week 1, thanks to the litany of injuries suffered during both training camp and in the preseason.
In some cases, injuries can serve as a subtle blessing—running back Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) and wide receiver Christian Kirk (hamstring) are likely to start the year off on injured lists and probably miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season, yet they may be needed as in-year reinforcements.
On the other hand, injuries elsewhere may prompt the Niners to stockpile depth at a position where head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch didn't originally intend.
