49ers bold NFL Draft prediction No. 4: Niners pick a quarterback

There’s a strong argument for teams to draft a quarterback each and every year regardless of who is under center.

The 49ers found out the value in doing so a year ago with Brock Purdy as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he ended up being the guy under center all the way to the NFC Championship game, boosting Kyle Shanahan’s offense in the process.

Purdy is coming off a UCL surgery this offseason and won’t be ready for training camp. However, the Niners do have fellow QBs like Trey Lance and Sam Darnold ready to go.

That might not be enough for a full offseason roster, however, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see San Francisco target a quarterback at some point on day three of the draft.

Perhaps even Stanford’s Tanner McKee, assuming he falls into the 49ers’ draft range.

But, should someone like McKee end up thriving, what would it mean for the Niners’ long-term plans at the position?

Could they execute the boldest of bold moves?
