On the clock: NFL Draft Pick No. 102: San Francisco 49ers – Jakorian Bennett, Cornerback, Maryland

Mock Draft 1.0 – N/A

The San Francisco 49ers signed Isaiah Oliver to replace Jimmie Ward at nickel back, but the overall depth at the position is still pretty thin behind the starters with Emmanuel Moseley and Jason Verrett off the roster. Jakorian Bennett has the versatility to play both outside and in the nickel, a trait deeply sought after by the 49ers.

Bennett also can play safety which would help with another need when it comes to depth. He’s a smart player who can easily fit into the 49ers defensive scheme.

Bennett’s exceptional NFL Combine showed he has the physical tools to stick in the NFL, and he was productive too at Maryland with five interceptions and 22 passes defended in the past two seasons.

A willing tackler, which ticks another of the 49ers boxes for defenders, Bennett boasts the versatility and upside you want to find at the end of the third round.
