On the clock: NFL Draft Pick No. 23: Minnesota Vikings – Cam Smith, Cornerback, South Carolina

Mock Draft 1.0 – Devon Witherspoon, Cornerback, Illinois

The Minnesota Vikings signed Byron Murphy but the team still needs a lot of help at cornerback. They miss out on Devon Witherspoon unlike the first mock, but Cam Smith could also appeal as an option.

Smith recorded 27 tackles, an interception and five passes broken up this season, excelling at South Carolina and playing himself into first-round contention.

A physical player, Smith has to make sure he keeps his hands clean during snaps as we’ve seen the sort of ticky-tack calls that decide Super Bowls now. That aside, he’s got some really good moves to keep up with receivers.

Smith has good size coming in at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds at the NFL Combine. He could stand to gain a little weight so he doesn’t get outmuscled, but there’s no reason why he can’t do that and thrive in the NFL.
