Former 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer remains unsigned

Let’s end this on a positive note and recall the glory days under center when quarterback Brian Hoyer was at the helm of the 49ers offense back in 2017.

OK, those times hurt. Bad.

The Niners jettisoned Hoyer once Jimmy Garoppolo arrived midway through that season, and Hoyer eventually ended up being the New England Patriots’ backup through 2022. And it’s great he managed to continue his career despite having such a pitiful San Francisco tenure.

Here’s where things get both interesting and ironic, though.

Every notable quarterback who has been on the 49ers’ payroll, aside from Hoyer, has found employment in 2023.

The Las Vegas Raiders inked Garoppolo. The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed C.J. Beathard, and even Nick Mullens returns to duty for the Minnesota Vikings.

Unlike many of the still-unemployed free agents on this list, there’s probably little chance the Niners even sniff out what Hoyer’s asking price would be this offseason.
