3 possible trade packages for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy
49ers possible Brock Purdy trade package partner No. 2: Green Bay Packers
With former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers heading to the New York Jets, there leaves just enough roster space and a whole lot of salary cap flexibility for a new addition.
Filling Rodgers’ shoes is a tall order, but given the right supporting cast, it would be very doable for Brock Purdy. Also, with a massive hole at starting quarterback, there would be no question as to who the team’s leader was if Purdy were to enter the building.
Just like the Texans, the Packers have plenty of draft capital this year with 11 total picks. The team doesn’t have a multi-pick round until the fifth, but from that point on, they own six overall selections.
Three picks stranded over seven rounds might be enough to entice 49ers general manager John Lynch to give up “Mr. Relevant.”
Especially when draft picks are the only thing that he’s lacking.
The sting of this trade is obvious for many reasons, but if Purdy were to be traded to the Packers, then another opponent that the Niners have dominated in recent years will have gotten stronger. That alone could derail their upcoming success.
Who knows what could happen if the 49ers’ front office gets a call in the next month or so? If we know one thing about Lynch, up to this point, it’s that he is no stranger to draft day trades in the war room.
