49ers free-agent target No. 1: Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

After sitting out all of 2022 in the wake of a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl the previous season, veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. probably isn’t the name most would think as a sleeper free-agent grab.

And there’s probably a good obstacle in the way of the Niners signing him, too, namely with Beckham wanting up to $20 million per year on a new contract, which is ludicrous.

With the likelihood of no contending team wanting to pay that, Beckham might have to wait it out.

Would San Francisco be interested? Sure.

Despite already having a one-two receiving punch in Brandon Aiyuk and the All-Pro, Deebo Samuel, a tertiary weapon like Beckham would be the kind of luxury move a Super Bowl-hungry team should pursue.

If you were doubting it, the 49ers were one of the teams attending Beckham’s recent workout, so at least that interest is there.

Should Beckham go without suitors, the Niners could easily save themselves some cost by offering him a cheaper contract than what he hoped he would get.
