Here are five Canadian NFL Draft prospects the San Francisco 49ers should take in this years draft.

Canadian-born players are starting to thrive in the NFL, and the San Francisco 49ers might want in on it.

This season, we saw the emergence of Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland (CoquIslam, BC), Washington Commanders cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (Montreal, Quebec), Carolina Panthers running back Chubba Hubbard (Edmonton, Alberta), and of course, Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton (dual citizenship).

For many NFL fans, where a player is from doesn’t mean much, almost all players are from the United States.

But when you’re a fan from another country, it’s truly something spectacular.

Many years ago, the dream of playing in the NFL with a Canadian passport was just that: a dream. Now, American universities and colleges are paying attention to kids in Canada. Canadian universities are doing a great job of producing talent, while the Canadian Football League continues to be a way for players to develop.

The Jacksonville Jaguars decided to take a chance at Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke. The Victoria, BC native played for his home province’s team, the BC Lions.

Captain Canada took the CFL by storm. He set numerous records while throwing for 25 touchdowns, 3,349 yards and had a completion percentage of 78.7 in just nine starts. He won the Most Outstanding Canadian award and tried out for a number of NFL teams.

With the XFL back in business and the USFL getting underway, expect to see many more Canadians showing up on draft boards and on NFL rosters in the near future.

Of the players we’ll feature, two are twins who attended Illinois University. Both are ranked highly on CFL draft boards and play on opposite sides of the ball.

The CFL draft will take place on May 2nd, 2023.

All stats and rankings are from the CFL Scouting Bureau and 3DownNation unless otherwise stated.
