Maybe the Vikings want to trade Kirk Cousins, and the 49ers could trade away Trey Lance. But this theoretical trade between the two teams is way too far.

On one hand, it’s great that anyone with an opinion about the NFL can voice it on social media.

On the other, there are probably far too many bad opinions out there.

A few absolutely wild and unbelievable suggestions, too, and the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are linked to one 2023 offseason trade suggestion that’d be an absolute joke.

Alright, just by mentioning the Niners and Vikings in the same sentence, fans are probably going to think a would-be trade involves Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins, for whom San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has had an affinity and once thought the team could land way back in 2017.

Well, yes. Cousins is part of this particular trade suggestion.

But there’s more. A lot more.

You won’t believe this atrocious 49ers-Vikings trade suggestion by this CBS Sports Radio host

Knowing Cousins is part of the deal, one would think a would-be trade for a 49ers team with plenty of questions at quarterback might only need to send off a couple of mid-round NFL Draft picks, assuming Shanahan and the Niners would be willing to take on Cousins’ $17 million post-trade cap hit in 2023.

Well, that’s not what CBS Sports Radio’s Andrew Perloff suggested. No, he wants San Francisco to throw in quarterback Trey Lance, a top defender and a future first-round pick to Minnesota for Cousins.

Seriously:

That’s about as bad a trade idea as possible.

Granted, Niner Noise (and probably a good chunk of the 49ers fanbase) isn’t wholly familiar with Perloff, unless they used to be big fans of The Dan Patrick Show, and perhaps Perloff is merely playing fun with the idea by creating the worst trade idea in the history of trades.

But it got Rich Eisen to weigh in with some serious critique:

Yeah, it’s bad.

Trying to (and struggling) to make sense of Andrew Perloff 49ers-Vikings trade suggestion

Let’s try making sense of Perloff’s trade idea if possible. The Niners could theoretically move Lance, especially if they believe in fellow quarterback Brock Purdy’s ascent and aren’t too concerned about a serious elbow injury suffered in the NFC Championship game last February.

Lance is younger and cheaper than Cousins, although the latter is proven and has far more experience, obviously.

Yet San Francisco would be taking on that massive cap hit, which also carries a void year in 2024 for $12.5 million.

In terms of value, that might be a straight-up Lance-for-Cousins trade. Maybe, in the dark corners of an NFL clubhouse, that could be pulled off in the Vikings strongarmed the 49ers.

Throwing in a starting defensive player and a first-round pick?

Ludicrous. That’s the kind of deal a front office should get fired for agreeing to. If anything, Perloff is hoping the Niners accidentally sneeze when trying to hit the “reject” button and wind up pressing “accept” instead.

Horrible. But, hey… opinions!
