No. 2: The Atlanta Falcons could be in the market for someone like Jimmy Garoppolo

It’s hard to say if the Atlanta Falcons want to add an expensive starting quarterback to their roster after they just released Marcus Mariota. But the 49ers were all but done with Garoppolo after last season and you know the rest.

In an article from ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot seems to be set with young Desmond Ridder taking the reigns, quoted as saying:

"“His makeup and just the way he’s handled every role that he’s been in and what he did over the last four games of the season. He dealt with adversity. he kept fighting. So, Desmond’s done some good things and we know he’s going to continue to improve this offseason.”"

Though Fontenot did say Atlanta will add to the position, it seems like it might stay away from big-name free agents.

The Falcons will select eighth overall at this year’s draft. They’ll need a lot of help in all phases of the game. We know they’re set at tight end with Kyle Pitts, and they’ll have running back Cordarrelle Patterson locked in through the 2023 season.

Atlanta finished 31st out of 32 teams in passing, though. It’ll need to address this issue sooner than later for any hopes of winning its division, which is completely up for grabs.
