Jimmy Garoppolo should sign with one of these 5 teams in NFL free agency
No. 3: With a new offensive coordinator in Washington, Jimmy Garoppolo could prove he’s starting material
The Washington Commanders recently cut starting quarterback Carson Wentz, opening the door for a potential Jimmy Garoppolo signing.
Washington’s QB room currently has Sam Howell, Taylor Henickie and Jake Fromm. Only one of those players posted a winning record, which was Howell at 1-0 when he and the Commanders defeated the Dallas Cowboys. Henickie finished the year 2-2-1, while Fromm went 0-3 in his starts.
However, the most intriguing part of the Commanders is their new offensive coordinator and assistant coach, Eric Bieniemy. The former Kansas City Chiefs’ play caller spent 10 years under coach Andy Reid as a running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator.
Bieniemy does have something to prove with his new team. He was blessed to have a star quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, as the two of them went on to win a couple of Super Bowls together. Now the question is, can he take a different style of quarterback and team to the playoffs?
With Garoppolo, he’d have a fantastic veteran to lean on.
Washington also has some real deep threats in “Scary” Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel. They also have a great pass-rusher duo with Chase Young and Montez Sweat.
Bieniemy might want a more mobile quarterback to lead his offense, and with the Commanders currently set to pick 16th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, taking a young college star might be more of a possibility.
But as we’ve seen over the last few seasons, never count Garoppolo out.
