NFL free agency ‘mock’ grants Jimmy Garoppolo to Dolphins
By Peter Panacy
While mocks are usually associated with draft season, one NFL free agency mock has Jimmy Garoppolo going from the 49ers over to the Dolphins.
It’s a fair debate among fans whether or not the draft or NFL free agency is the better event of the two.
Draftnicks love those three days in April, but the free-agent frenzy that takes place at the beginning of the league new year is pretty wild and crazy, putting it lightly.
At any rate, the 2023 offseason could be pretty wild and crazy when it comes to the quarterbacking market, and it’s likely to include a new home for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who doesn’t appear poised to return to the team that attempted to trade him a year ago at this time.
Garoppolo may have plenty of suitors this offseason, but that was the argument last offseason, too.
However, if one could mock out NFL free agency with Garoppolo as a centerpiece, where would he go?
Well, CBS Sports did just that and speculated his landing spot.
CBS Sports mocks Jimmy Garoppolo to Dolphins in NFL free agency
The Miami Dolphins don’t exactly seem like a hot destination for Jimmy G in 2023, although he would be reuniting with a former staffer for the Niners, head coach Mike McDaniel.
However, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin speculated in his NFL free agency mock that Garoppolo would be heading to South Florida to take over duties under center from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa:
"The Jimmy G connection makes too much sense: as much as this team is publicly committed to Tua Tagovailoa, the young QB cannot — and should not — be trusted to stay on the field. Garoppolo has his own availability concerns, but he’s at least guided multiple playoff runs in the 49ers system from which Mike McDaniel hails. At the very least, he’d be premium insurance at a premium position."

At least by joining the Dolphins, Garoppolo would get to square off twice a year against his former employers before San Francisco, the New England Patriots.
That’d be interesting.
In addition to Garoppolo going to Miami, Benjamin mocks free-agent guard Isaac Seumalo from the Philadelphia Eagles in a less-spicy but very-important move to upgrade the offensive line.
