Bombshell report on Seahawks will make 49ers fans laugh
By Peter Panacy
49ers fans will never pass up an opportunity to scoff at the Seahawks, and a bombshell report about Russell Wilson is just too good to avoid laughing at.
One of the wins from the 2022 offseason was the San Francisco 49ers finally getting quarterback Russell Wilson out of the NFC West and out of the conference entirely.
Although Wilson had some revenge against the Niners with his new team, the Denver Broncos, when San Francisco lost on the road there early last season.
Of course, Wilson earned his spot in the pantheon of rival players 49ers fans love to hate because of his lengthy tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, who more or less owned the Niners in one way or another from 2012 through 2021.
Wilson is a primary reason why.
However, in the wake of the Hawks trading him to Denver an offseason ago, there have been plenty of laughing points for San Francisco fans to take in.
Including Wilson and the Broncos going through one of the worst offensive spells in recent football memory, making that trade look absolutely ludicrous.
However, considering 49ers fans won’t hesitate to scoff at Seattle or Wilson, a recent bombshell report from The Athletic paints an even uglier picture of what happened up north in the NFC West between the quarterback and his former team.
49ers fans can revel in recent report that says Russell Wilson tried to get Seahawks to fire Pete Carroll, John Schneider
Wilson might have been enemy No. 1 to Niners fans, but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is a close second.
According to a report from The Athletic (subscription required), Wilson apparently tried to convince the Hawks to fire both Carroll and general manager John Schneider.
Not long after, Seattle traded Wilson to Denver.
Another portion from CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani pointed out how Wilson originally wanted to replace Carroll with former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton:
"It seems like Seattle won this battle with Wilson, right? Well, interestingly enough, when Wilson asked Seahawks ownership to fire coach Carroll, he reportedly had a replacement in mind: former New Orleans Saints lead man Sean Payton. Denver went out and hired Payton this offseason…"
Either way, it appears as if Wilson is trying to play the report down, as he expressed in a recent tweet:
OK, Russ.

The report from The Athletic didn’t name specific sources, and Wilson’s camp has understandably responded to that report in denial.
Either way, Niners fans shouldn’t hesitate to laugh a little bit at what’s become a laughable situation for their NFC West rivals and a quarterback who once played there.
