Niner Noise goes through some current 49ers greats and accumulates their performances from the NFL Scouting Combine events in recent years.

An NFL Scouting Combine performance might not make or break any prospect’s NFL Draft stock, but it can certainly aid or hinder it.

A player who was always thought to be fast on game tape could ultimately run a 4.3 40-yard dash, and he might go from a surefire second-round selection into being taken in Round 1.

Or the opposite. Poor performances at the NFL Combine could hinder a prospect’s stock, too.

Although, the best scouts don’t always base evaluations on combine workouts. These “Spandex Olympics” are important, but they don’t count for everything.

Either way, the San Francisco 49ers have seen some of their notable players wind up on all areas of the NFL Combine spectrum.

So, with draft season just around the corner and the NFL Scouting Combine in full focus, let’s look at how some of the Niners’ more notable players have performed at Indianapolis in recent years.

49ers NFL Scouting Combine: LB Fred Warner (2018)

The best linebacker in the league, All-Pro Fred Warner, has an NFL Draft profile picture you’ve got to check out.

OK, now that you’ve done that, Warner showed off his athleticism at the 2018 combine by running a 4.64 40-yard dash and a 4.28 20-yard shuttle, and you can’t avoid noting his total workouts from Lucas Oil Stadium:

  • 40-yard dash: 4.64 seconds
  • 60-yard shuttle: 11.77 seconds
  • Vertical jump: 38.5 inches
  • Broad jump: 9 feet, 11 inches
  • 3-cone drill: 6.9 seconds
  • 20-yard shuttle: 4.28 seconds
  • Bench press: 21 reps

With hindsight being what it is, the fact Warner slipped into Round 3 is something of a miracle for the Niners, although that scouting report from NFL.com cited his success or failure would depend on how he was used.

San Francisco must be using him correctly, right?
