49ers news: Klint Kubiak joins Kyle Shanahan’s offensive staff
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers made up for the loss of Bobby Slowik by grabbing Klint Kubiak, who’ll take on an offensive role after jobs with both the Broncos and Vikings.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has to be getting used to his staff constantly undergoing changes.
However, with the Niners having made it to at least the NFC Championship game in three of the last four seasons, it’s probably safe to assume that Shanahan is capable of finding adequate replacements.
This offseason alone, San Francisco has watched its defensive coordinator, DeMeco Ryans, depart for the Houston Texans‘ head-coaching vacancy, and Ryans took one of Shanahan’s top offensive minds, Bobby Slowik, with him to become the new offensive coordinator there.
While that departure will hurt, it appears as if Shanahan and the 49ers have already landed Slowik’s replacement.
49ers to hire former Broncos QB coach, Klint Kubiak, per reports
According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Niners are intending to replace Slowik with former Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach, as well as the Minnesota Vikings’ former offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak.
NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco corroborated Pelissero’s report.
Kubiak stems from a notable lineage in the NFL world. Not only is his father, Gary Kubiak, a Super Bowl-winning coach with a lengthy pedigree, but Klint Kubiak’s brother, Klay Kubiak, is also on Shanahan’s staff as an assistant quarterbacks coach, too.

Needless to say, having the two brothers working together should be positive (most of the time).
Klint Kubiak entered the league with the Broncos as an assistant in 2016 and then spent three years with the Vikings (2019 through 2021) as a quarterbacks coach and then an offensive coordinator under then-head coach Mike Zimmer.
In 2022, he returned to Denver as its quarterbacks coach for one season, and he’ll now join the 49ers’ staff.
