NFL Draft news: When is the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine?
By Peter Panacy
While the 2022 season technically hasn’t ended yet, the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine is just around the corner and will lead up to this year’s NFL Draft.
Is the annual NFL Scouting Combine overhyped and overvalued?
Perhaps. After all, what can be learned from watching a bunch of recent college athletes perform basic physical drills in spandex? Exactly how does that translate over to the gridiron?
It does in some ways, though, and it’s nevertheless an important step in the road to the NFL Draft. Not only can a prospect boost or destroy his draft stock during the combine, but he’ll also potentially change his stock based on meeting with teams, going through physicals and even selecting the right agent to represent him.
Yes, it’s an important event even if too much value is assigned to it.
Technically, the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off the league’s new year, which doesn’t officially start until March 15.
But the combine takes place before that.
When is the 2023 NFL Combine?
The 2023 NFL Combine begins on Monday, Feb. 27, and goes through Monday, March 6. But the first few days are reserved for registration and player medicals.
Actual onfield drills begin on Thursday, March 2 and will involve the following positions:
- Thursday, March 2: Defensive linemen, linebackers
- Friday, March 3: Defensive backs
- Saturday, March 4: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends
- Sunday, March 5: Running backs, offensive linemen

In addition to the stadium, the surrounding facilities have made it favorable for the league to use it as a regular combine venue year after year.
Who is invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine
Not every draft-eligible prospect receives an invite to partake in combine activities.
This year, 319 prospects for the draft have been invited, and you can view the full list here.
Draft-eligible prospects who aren’t invited to the NFL Combine can still perform similar workouts at pro days, and many prospects who partook in the combine also opt to participate in their own pro days, too.
How to watch the NFL Scouting Combine
