The 49ers have been known to have interest in Aaron Rodgers, but the Packers quarterback’s latest antics probably make Niners fans happy he’s not in the Bay Area.

There are two parallel statements that are equally true about Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Well, three.

First, the San Francisco 49ers have been interested in adding Rodgers before. Even head coach Kyle Shanahan said as much right around the 2021 NFL Draft.

Second, Rodgers is a no-doubt first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest in the game’s history.

Third, he’s a weird dude.

Rodgers has had his odd moments before, and saying he’s weird isn’t anything new. From “COVID toe” to some of his strange social media posts, there’s rarely a time when fans aren’t discussing some of his antics.

However, Rodgers’ latest activity will probably make Niners fans (and plenty of other teams’ fans, too) cringe even further.

49ers fans just have to laugh at Aaron Rodgers ‘darkness retreat’

One of the venues in which Rodgers has gained even more notoriety is during his regular appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

A recent episode understandably focused on the 39-year-old Rodgers’ possible retirement, especially considering Green Bay’s fall from grace last season after being a perennial Super Bowl threat in the years prior.

This time around, Rodgers will be partaking in a four-day “darkness retreat” that’ll ultimately help him make his decision about playing in 2023.

Apparently, he’ll lock himself into total darkness for those four days and four nights, and that’ll allow him to come up with the best decision about retiring.

“For sure, it’s a real thing. One-hundred percent,” Rodgers said on the show. “That’s why it’s going to be important to get through this week and to take my isolation retreat and just to be able to contemplate all things my future and then be able to make a decision that I think is best for me moving forward and in the highest interest of my happiness and then move forward.”

Cringe.

Sure, Rodgers is entitled to do whatever he wants with regard to helping decide about retirement. But this route is borderline laughable.

Not long ago, Rodgers told CBS Sports that he wasn’t “going to San Fran” in 2023, although it’s not quite clear how that would happen anyway. Green Bay would likely be seeking a hefty trade package in return, and the 49ers don’t have a first- or a second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

However, given the quarterback’s recent statement about full immersion into the darkness, perhaps it’s a bonus the 49ers won’t get involved anyway.

It’s just too weird.
