49ers free-agent No. 3: Defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway

It’s unfortunate San Francisco lost veteran defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway to a pectoral injury midway through the regular season, as he was a major reason why the defensive line maintained a high level of production despite losing starting defensive tackles, Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw, to serious injuries for lengthy periods of time.

With those two out, Ridgeway was a prime reason why the run defense remained top-notch.

Ridgway, 28 years old, was capable of playing multiple spots along the D-line, and that versatility could go a long way toward ensuring the 49ers’ depth in 2023 doesn’t take too substantial a hit.

Even though his injury was disappointing, it might serve as a bit of a bonus in the long run, as he’d likely be much more affordable and would make a better re-sign candidate.
