49ers vs. Cowboys: Charles Omenihu exits with injury
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers need their pass rush to be on point against the Cowboys, and that’ll be tougher if Charles Omenihu can’t return from an injury.
Both the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys‘ defenses stole the show early in the 2023 divisional-round game between these two rivals at Levi’s Stadium, the Niners forcing an early interception off the hand of quarterback Dak Prescott, while Dallas allowed only three points after the turnover.
The Cowboys also managed to sack San Francisco’s quarterback, Brock Purdy, twice in the first quarter, too.
If the 49ers want to respond in the pass-rush department, they’ll need plenty from Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa. But getting some supplementary pass-rushing help is going to be key, too.
And that might be a bit more difficult if defensive end Charles Omenihu doesn’t return from an apparent injury suffered in the first quarter.
49ers DE Charles Omenihu suffers oblique injury vs. Cowboys
Omenihu was observed walking back into the Niners locker room in the first quarter but under his own power and with relative ease.
For quite some time, there wasn’t any news as to what the injury was. However, it appears as if he’s dealing with an oblique injury and will be questionable to return.
Omenihu notched two sacks during San Francisco’s Wild Card win over the Seattle Seahawks last week, and his absence could be a problem for the 49ers’ attempts to get after Prescott.

It’ll be something to monitor, especially considering Dallas’ offense can be explosive and will try taking advantage of Omenihu’s absence.
The Niners inserted backup defensive end Jordan Willis into Omenihu’s spot shortly after the injury and appear to be rolling with that option in the interim.
