49ers news: SF well-represented on 2022 First-Team All-Pro list
By Tommy Jaggi
The San Francisco 49ers have stars on both sides of the football, so it wasn’t surprising to see how well-represented they were on the 2022 First-Team All-Pro list.
Just ahead of a jam-packed weekend full of Wild Card playoff football, the Associated Press released their 2022 First-Team All-Pro list. With the talent they have around the roster and their 10-game win streak to close the season, I don’t think anyone was surprised to see that the San Francisco 49ers were well-represented this year.
Earning First-Team All-Pro honors for the Niners for their efforts in 2022 were edge defender Nick Bosa, offensive tackle Trent Williams, linebacker Fred Warner, and safety Talanoa Hufanga. San Francisco was the only team in the NFL with four representatives on this list. The Kansas City Chiefs were next with three.
It’s hard to argue with many of the names on this list either. After a spectacular season, Bosa should be able to run away with Defensive Player of the Year honors. He is joined on the All-Pro list by fellow DPOY candidate, Micah Parsons. Meanwhile, Trent Williams remains one of the league’s most dominant offensive linemen despite his age.
Fred Warner earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career thanks to an excellent season in 2022, while Talanoa Hufanga made the list for the very first time in his second NFL season after recording 4 interceptions and a defensive touchdown this year.
49ers could have had even more All-Pro representatives
While some would argue that a player like Derwin James was more deserving of making First-Team All-Pro than Hufanga, I think 49ers fan can argue that, somehow, four representatives on this list was not enough. Though I believe the Associated Press mostly got it right, a case could be made for a few other Niners to make the cut.
Running back Christian McCaffrey was fantastic since being traded to San Francisco before the deadline. In just 11 games with the 49ers, he earned over 1,200 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns, via ESPN stats. This isn’t counting the production he had in his first 6 games of 2022 with the Carolina Panthers.
Likewise, George Kittle was a monster for this team down the stretch as he finished with 765 yards and 11 touchdowns in 15 games. However, it’s certainly hard to argue that Chiefs TE Travis Kelce shouldn’t make this list.
In addition to the known commodities, players like Charvarius Ward and Dre Greenlaw played exceptionally well for San Francisco this season. And we haven’t even mentioned impressive skill players like Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
It’s hard to complain about having four First-Team All-Pro players in one season, but the truth is that San Francisco was lucky enough to have several others performing at an All-Pro level this year. Now we will soon find out if one of the league’s most talented rosters will translate to post-season success.
