No. 2: Jimmy G. gets re-signed in 2023: A capable starter at a bargain price

General Manager John Lynch is finally out from under that massive contract he gave Jimmy G. in 2018 and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Having to earmark that money for Garoppolo’s salary was a huge hinderance.

It kept them from signing quality free agents to help bolster the roster. Not to mention that through the draft and free agency the 49ers have acquired some quality players that are due some big paydays.

Prior to the start of the season, as mentioned earlier, the last year of his contract was re-structured for significantly less. However, something tells me that if he stays in San Francisco, his next contract will be even cheaper. If that’s the case, the front office can have the same version of him for a much smaller cap hit.

At 31 years of age, Garoppolo still has plenty of years left in him to contribute towards a championship. To his credit, he’s had multiple winning streaks since arriving in San Francisco, the most recent one coming this year prior to injury. If he wouldn’t have broken his foot, who knows how this season would have turned out for him.
