No. 1: Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks also need some help if they are to clinch the No. 7 seed. They would need a win against the Los Angeles Rams and a loss from the Packers in Week 18.

The pros of a potential playoff matchup with Seattle also lie in recent history. The 49ers are 2-0 against them in the 2022 season, outscoring them 48-20 in those two games.

The 49ers also committed 0 turnovers in those two games compared to four from the Seahawks.

Additionally, quarterback Geno Smith of the Seahawks would be making his playoff debut as a starter should they clinch, and that would be excellent for the defensive unit of the 49ers who have a number of playoff games under their belts.

The cons of this potential matchup revolve around the fact that sometimes teams can get one-up on even their superior division rivals. We’ve seen it many times in the past even throughout this season.

Winning three times in one season against a division opponent can be a tough task as the 49ers saw that last season against the Rams.

That many games against an individual opponent give them a lot of film and chances to make adjustments they previously missed in earlier games. So closing out a three-game sweep of the Seahawks could prove to be a tough task in that respect.

Whomever the 49ers end up playing in their first-round playoff matchup, they should be the far superior team from top to bottom, and thus have an excellent chance at advancing to the Divisional Round.
