It might be strange to think 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy could win the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year award, but his betting odds are actually high.

The journey San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy has taken truly is pretty remarkable.

Only a few years ago, there was chatter about the Iowa State signal-caller being a Round 1 selection in the NFL Draft, but his draft stock took a nosedive all the way to being the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Mr. Irrelevant,” as the moniker goes.

Becoming the third-string quarterback on the Niners’ 2022 roster behind fellow QBs like Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo might have seemed like a small victory for Purdy. After all, he wasn’t relegated to the ranks of post-training camp cuts or onto the team’s practice squad.

However, following season-ending injuries to both quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart, Purdy has gone from Mr. Irrelevant to very much relevant.

Particularly after helping San Francisco clinch the NFC West by defeating the Seattle Seahawks in a primetime Thursday Night Football showdown, and beforehand, knocking off quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in decisive fashion.

Plus, when you’re the featured character in Bleacher Report’s Gridiron Heights series, you know you’ve made it:

And, as long as Purdy and the 49ers keep winning, he might wind up with some more accolades along the way, too.

Betting odds for Brock Purdy Offensive Rookie of the Year have skyrocketed

Again, it must be good to be Purdy right now.

According to the oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook, Purdy now holds the fifth-best betting odds to be the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year at +1200

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is the favorite, currently at -115. Then it’s Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson at +350, followed by Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III at +600 and New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave at +800.

Not bad company to be in, considering few around the NFL even knew Purdy’s name prior to him having to relieve Garoppolo back in Week 13.

Even then, it took two excellent outings by the rookie quarterback to gain the kind of recognition he has now.

And if the Niners’ seven-game win streak continues, paired with Purdy playing well and helping San Francisco’s upcoming playoff push, accolades like the Offensive Rookie of the Year are certainly in play.
