No. 2: 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward

The 49ers have already lost one of their starting cornerbacks to a season-ending injury, Emmanuel Moseley, who went down with a torn ACL earlier in the year.

They can ill-afford to lose their top corner, Charvarius Ward.

The Niners caught a glimpse of this over the second half of the Seahawks game when Ward was removed to be evaluated for a concussion, and this left San Francisco’s defensive backfield shorthanded and vulnerable to Hawks quarterback Geno Smith, translating into the lone touchdown Seattle scored on the night.

The 49ers are going to face more potent offenses than that of the Seahawks in the playoffs, and Ward was brought in to primarily handle opponents’ top receivers, which was a massive weakness during the Niners’ postseason push a year ago.

If giving Ward a bit of rest down the stretch means San Francisco’s secondary takes a few statistical hits over the next three games, so be it.
