The 49ers were close to being without their top pass-rusher, Nick Bosa, against the Buccaneers in Week 14, but he’ll suit up despite a hamstring injury.

San Francisco 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa, who leads the NFL with 14.5 sacks heading into Week 14, was in legitimate danger of missing the Niners’ Week 14 home contest against quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday because of a hamstring issue.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Friday that the injury was significant enough to be worried, and Bosa sat out all three days of practice.

Although that didn’t stop Brady from poking some fun at Bosa during the week.

Late on Saturday before the game, though, ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited a source that said Bosa was healthy enough to play and would be active, thereby avoiding what would have been his second missed game of the season:

San Francisco released its usual inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff against the Bucs, and Bosa was not on the list.

49ers inactives vs. Buccaneers: Nick Bosa off the list, Jimmy Garoppolo on it

Bosa narrowly avoided landing on the Week 14 inactive list, but the 49ers are dealing with a number of other injured players who find themselves listed.

The Niners had the following on their inactive group for Sunday’s bout:

  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo
  • DL Hassan Ridgeway
  • OL Jaylon Moore
  • TE Ross Dwelley
  • LB Curtis Robinson
  • OL Nick Zakelj
  • RB Tyrion Davis-Price

Garoppolo being on the list isn’t too big a surprise. Earlier in the week, San Francisco’s top brass, including head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, said they’d avoid putting Garoppolo on injured reserve unless they had to. Despite Jimmy G’s potentially season-ending foot injury, he’ll at least be inactive for the time being.

Instead, rookie quarterback Brock Purdy makes his first NFL start opposite Brady. Not a bad debut, right?

Meanwhile, the 49ers and Buccaneers will kick off from Levi’s Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET on Dec. 11.
