Brock Purdy, 49ers get A-grades all around after smashing Buccaneers
By Peter Panacy
Brock Purdy and the 49ers deserve some lofty grades after demolishing Tom Brady and the Buccaneers 35-7 at Levi’s Stadium in Week 14.
No quarterback making his first-ever NFL start had beaten the GOAT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, before.
Also, no one told that to San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, making his first pro start after taking over the reins for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 14 with Brady and the Bucs visiting Levi’s Stadium.
It was Purdy, not Brady delivering a GOAT-like performance, responsible for two passing touchdowns and another rushing score, while the Niners defense swarmed and frustrated Brady and a floundering Tampa Bay offense, ultimately leading to the one-sided 35-7 victory to help push head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad to 9-4 on the season.
Purdy, meanwhile, can walk away from the game knowing his first win was against Brady, spoiling not only the GOAT’s homecoming to Northern California but also bucking the trend of first-start signal-callers losing games to him.
For the most part, nearly everything that could go right for Purdy, Shanahan and the 49ers went right. The offense was explosive, and the defense was dominant through all four quarters.
Even special teams were notably good throughout the game.
However, not everything was perfect and happy for the Niners in this high-profile contest, but let’s explore that and more in Niner Noise’s Week 14 positional grades and analysis.
Hint: Most things are still awfully good, and there are A-grades all around.
