49ers replacement quarterback No. 2: Josh Rosen

OK, before you start complaining about this selection, keep in mind that head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense is one of the most complex in the league, and even veteran quarterbacks like Ryan Fitzpatrick would take time to acclimate appropriately.

Granted, former Niners quarterback Josh Rosen (and we take that with a grain of salt, considering he was in San Francisco for only two games in 2020 and didn’t make it onto the 53-man roster after the 2021 preseason) is never going to share his massive “bust” label after being a flameout top-10 pick from the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, that limited knowledge of Shanahan’s offense might have some merit, especially if the 49ers are looking at Brock Purdy to start the rest of the way but would want someone who at least had a bit of familiarity with the system in case Purdy went down.

Rosen would be far from perfect, and that’s an understatement. But, don’t discount his prior ties to the Niners.
