49ers’ season hangs in the balance after Jimmy Garoppolo carted off with a first-quarter ankle injury.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been playing at a Pro Bowl level over the past month, as the Niners have rocketed up NFL Power Ranking charts across the media. With their eyes on another playoff run, the 49ers now wait for an injury update for their starting quarterback.

The Niners’ first drive of the afternoon ended with an unblocked defender rushing Garoppolo, and eventually sacking the QB from behind. Jimmy G’s left ankle appeared to twist awkwardly as two Miami defenders took him to the ground.

After being attended to on the sideline, the 49ers opted to cart Garoppolo into the locker room for further testing. He is officially questionable to return to today’s game. Garoppolo left the contest after completing two of four pass attempts for 56 yards.

Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy–“Mr. Irrelevant” in the 2022 NFL Draft–was under center to begin the following drive. Purdy’s first drive was mixed, but assisted by the running game and a third-down pass interference call, the rookie was able to put the ball in the end zone for the first touchdown pass of his career.

Purdy totaled 10 passing yards, including a three-yard touchdown pass to fullback Kyle Juszczyk on his first NFL drive.
