The 49ers have been linked to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. before, but Jay Glazer feels this next go-around will be much more competitive.

A year ago, the Los Angeles Rams made enough of a push to land star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. And while he might not have been the sole reason why LA ended up winning the Super Bowl, Beckham certainly played a key role in helping the San Francisco 49ers’ division rivals both get there and win a Lombardi Trophy.

Beckham has spent the entirety of the 2022 season doing two things: recovering from the torn ACL he suffered during that Super Bowl win, and he’s also weighing his options.

One of the options is to return to the Rams, although previous reports state Beckham was wholly upset with the initial offer Los Angeles made to re-sign him. Whether or not that would increase the Niners’ chances of luring Beckham in is anyone’s guess, but it’s notably apparent the role he’d play in San Francisco would be drastically different than the one he’d have in LA.

Particularly with the 49ers already boasting two top-level wideouts in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, whereas Beckham would be the de facto No. 2 alongside the Rams’ Cooper Kupp.

However, the Niners are arguably in a better position to win a Super Bowl now than Los Angeles. And, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, that’ll play a huge role in Beckham’s inevitable decision of where to sign.

Jay Glazer says 49ers need to win ‘bidding war’ to sign Odell Beckham

Glazer, via  San Francisco’s 95.7 The Game, is pretty well-connected throughout the league and has a pulse on what’s going on.

Needless to say, his reports should be taken awfully seriously.

The first part of Glazer’s report was that Beckham should be fully cleared and soon:

"Odell Beckham, I have learned, will be ready and cleared by the end of this week. Full clear, no limitations at all, then after that it’s just up for a team to get his conditioning up and obviously get a playbook down."

And, whether or not San Francisco would have an interest in Beckham, Glazer subsequently reported the 49ers wouldn’t be alone in the pursuit:

"(It’s) probably going to be a team that can go win a ring right now. I know Von Miller was trying to get him up there to Buffalo, a team like San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys. And he still has some love for the Rams. … I think there’s going to be a big bidding war for Odell."

Whatever the case might be, the Niners won’t be alone in any pursuit they’d have with Beckham. However, San Francisco still does have significant firepower available on offense if it ultimately loses out on that bidding war.

Either way, it’ll be an interesting storyline to follow through the next week or so.
