49ers offensive grades from first half of 2022 NFL season

49ers 1st-half offensive grades: Quarterback
It’s pretty tough to adequately judge the 49ers’ quarterback situation, given the Niners were intent on starting Trey Lance and only kept Jimmy Garoppolo around for insurance on a renegotiated contract.
Insurance that ended up being needed when Lance was lost for the year to a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.
Garoppolo might be playing his best football in a San Francisco uniform this season. And while he’s not going to lead the NFL in any sort of passing-yard or touchdown category, some of the other metrics suggest he’s right up there among league leaders anyway, such as Football Outsiders‘ DVOA and DYAR metrics, as shown by Niners Nation’s Akash Anavarathan:
It’s crazy to think Garoppolo is in that conversation.
Still, despite being in the top 10 in both completion percentage (66.7) and passer rating (100.7), Garoppolo remains limited and has yet to showcase the talent needed to fully elevate the offense around him
Particularly during the few games in which the 49ers defense has been suspect.
Nevertheless, a B-grade (meaning “good” anyway) is still worthy of praise in Jimmy G’s direction.
