The 49ers limp home from a two-game road trip to face the potent Chiefs in Week 7, and the Niners are already home underdogs for this contest.

It would have been in the San Francisco 49ers’ best interests to pull off a two-game win streak in Weeks 5 and 6 over inferior opponents like the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons.

Except no one told the Falcons they were supposed to be the inferior opponent.

In the wake of the Niners’ 28-14 loss at Atlanta, paired with a lengthy injury report that only grew longer in Week 6, head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. now have to return home to face a 4-2 Kansas City Chiefs team that is going to be awfully upset after a narrow home loss to quarterback Josh Allen and the top-seeded Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Both teams should be angry, yes, but KC might just be a bit angrier. Healthier, too.

And that could be a factor for San Francisco, just like it was in Week 6 in the attempt to navigate through such a long list of injuries.

49ers vs Chiefs betting odds Week 7

There would have been a good chance the Chiefs were going to be road favorites in this bout in Northern California regardless, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes could move the betting needle a lot more than the 49ers’ own, Jimmy Garoppolo.

With those injuries piling up for the Niners, though, it’s interesting they’re only three-point home underdogs, according to the oddsmakers over at WynnBET.

The spread could grow depending on some of the injury updates stemming from Sunday’s game, and those will trickle through the week.

At the opening, both San Francisco and Kansas City have a moneyline of -110, while the over/under is 46.5.

49ers vs. Chiefs prediction Week 7

The Chiefs entered Week 6 with the No. 1-ranked scoring offense, while the 49ers have still struggled to put points on the board despite going up against a weakish Falcons defense last Sunday.

Granted, KC’s defense has shown some improvement but still ranks 24th in scoring and has been susceptible to giving up plenty of pass yards, albeit the context of back-and-forth games with Mahomes has to be taken into account.

If the Niners defense is able to get healthy, they’ll stand a chance against Mahomes and Co.

However, given San Francisco’s luck on that front, it’s likely Week 7 will wind up being yet another shorthanded affair, and this one might end up being even tougher to acknowledge than the ugly defeat at the hands of the Falcons.

Sadly, especially if health is a factor, the Chiefs pull off a convincing 31-17 win at Levi’s Stadium in Week 7 in our opening prediction.

Both teams kick off in real life on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
