Falcons player No. 2 who could ruin 49ers day: RB Tyler Allgeier

A year ago, the 49ers did an excellent job bottling up one of the Falcons’ unique talents, the dual-threat running back, Cordarrelle Patterson.

Patterson had his own Deebo Samuel-like season as a multifaceted offensive weapon, and while it was nowhere near as prolific as that of Samuel, it was nevertheless impressive.

Too bad for Atlanta that Patterson has landed on injured reserve.

This means Patterson’s backup, running back Tyler Allgeier, will be a true X-factor for the game and someone who could ultimately derail the Niners’ efforts to get to 4-2. The 22 year old already has 184 yards on 39 rush attempts, averaging 4.7 yards per carry in the process. And with Patterson shelved, it’s been Allgeier’s moment to shine.

The Falcons have that 10th-ranked scoring offense entering Week 6, but it’s not because of their passing game. Arthur Smith wants to run the ball, and he’d prefer to do so against a San Francisco defense early and often.

Not because that defense is terrible against the run, as it’s allowing just 3 yards per attempt, but rather to control the clock in a “ground and pound” sort of way.

If Allgeier has a statement game, it could end up being trouble for the 49ers.
