49ers game Sunday vs. Falcons: Odds and prediction for NFL Week 6 game
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers stay back out on the East Coast for their Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, and we’ve got your opening odds and prediction here.
The San Francisco 49ers elected to stay on the East Coast in the wake of their dominant 37-15 Week 5 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
And while the Niners have had success doing this in the past before, thus avoiding the cross-country road trips for back-to-back weeks, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad might be a bit shorthanded after what went down at Carolina.
San Francisco lost EDGE Nick Bosa, safety Jimmie Ward, kicker Robbie Gould and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to game-ending injuries, and Moseley is feared to have torn his ACL.
Brutal.
It’d be one thing if the 49ers were poised to go up against a Super Bowl-caliber squad the following week. But, with the sub-par Atlanta Falcons hosting the Niners in Week 6, one can hope San Francisco’s recent run of troubling injuries isn’t too devastating.
The 2-3 Falcons have been quite the feisty squad this season, nearly staging a comeback against quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5.
As such, the 49ers aren’t exactly going to have a cakewalk of a contest, even though the betting odds suggest otherwise.

49ers vs. Falcons prediction Week 6
Carolina might have more talent on both sides of the ball than Atlanta, but the Falcons are easily playing better under head coach Arthur Smith. An offense within the top 10 is certainly respectable despite the lack of playmakers outside of wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and tight end Kyle Pitts.
And that defense can be feisty, too, even if the stats don’t always reflect it.
All told, though, Week 6 is another contest in which the Niners are overwhelmingly stronger at nearly every position aside from special teams, namely with regard to what happens with Gould.
It might not be quite like the one-sided domination San Francisco experienced over Carolina, particularly on the back end of a two-game road trip.
But let’s look at the 49ers’ predictive victory, beating the Falcons 23-17.
