Kyle Shanahan must tweak 49ers WR room with Ray-Ray McCloud

Another area in which Kyle Shanahan must tweak the depth chart is the incorporation of all these uniquely different offensive weapons. For a team that has such a loaded roster from top to bottom, it’s hard to fathom a lack of playing time for additional playmakers.

Guys who have the ability to take the top off the defense and create potential mismatches on the field. Players like wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who’s been on the field for 55 snaps through four games, should be given more reps.

Most of his contributions come from the special teams department since he’s the primary kick and punt returner. Yet it would still be a great idea for Shanahan to find ways of utilizing McCloud’s speed within the offense.

Now that we’re talking about speed, it’s been a quiet first month of the season for rookie wideout Danny Gray. Although Gray has been dealing with a recent hip injury, he never really made a dent in the rotation.

Perhaps his number will be getting called more often as the season progresses.
