The 49ers host the Rams on Monday Night Football in Week 4, and we’ve got your opening betting odds and initial prediction for this NFC West bout.

The San Francisco 49ers want and need nothing more than to put the memory of their embarrassing Week 3 Sunday Night Football loss to the Denver Broncos in the rearview mirror, and the best way to do that would be to avenge what happened in the NFC Championship game last season to the Los Angeles Rams.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad saw its streak of dominance over LA come to an end last February, and Los Angeles eventually won the Super Bowl two weeks later.

So, while a Niners victory in Week 4 wouldn’t completely erase that memory, it would sure help. And it’d help Shanahan and Co. get back on track after the debacle that took place in Denver last Sunday.

At 2-1, LA is dealing with what could be a Super Bowl hangover of its own, and the offensive line isn’t quite up to snuff. However, with San Francisco potentially losing All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams for the foreseeable future with what could be a high-ankle sprain, the 49ers aren’t exactly in great shape either.

Especially considering how poorly quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo played versus Denver. There seems to be little to back up the argument he’ll perform better against the Rams when these two teams square off on Monday Night Football in Week 4.

Despite the Niners coming off a loss in which Garoppolo and the offense were almost entirely ineffective, oddsmakers over at FanDuel are nevertheless naming Shanahan’s squad as one-point favorites for Week 4’s tilt on Monday night.

Although home teams are typically granted three points anyway.

Perhaps the oddsmakers are taking into account how Shanahan has uprooted Rams head coach Sean McVay in six of the last seven meetings, the lone loss being that NFC Championship game, doing so at times with notably inferior rosters than the one at Shanahan’s disposal now.

San Francisco’s opening moneyline is -112, and the over/under is 46.0.

49ers vs. Rams prediction Week 4

The 49ers can respond two ways from last Sunday’s embarrassment. On one hand, Garoppolo looked very Garoppolo-like, and perhaps Los Angeles takes a page out of Denver’s book and loads the defensive box with five linemen to force Jimmy G to throw more.

On the other hand, the Niners can enact some vengeance and look to get right back into the thick of the NFC West lead with a statement win over a Rams team still not quite at the level it was towards the end of last season.

Unfortunately, at least based on San Francisco’s offensive struggles through the bulk of three weeks and amid injuries to players like Williams, the ideal outcome doesn’t seem great.

No, we’re going to predict a Rams victory on Monday Night Football, them beating the 49ers by a score of 27-13 to further embarrass Shanahan and the Niners.
