49ers roster: 5 offseason additions who are paying off nicely

No. 1: 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward
While both special teams and the offensive line were constructed as weaknesses needing to be addressed during the offseason, few positions commanded more critique than the 49ers’ cornerback room.
A good way to solve that was by grabbing former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward in NFL free agency.
Ward has taken over the No. 1 boundary corner role and has so far justified the Niners’ lofty investment in him.
To date, he has 10 total tackles to go along with two passes broken up, and Week 2 gifted him with one of the easiest interceptions a defensive back can have, pushing the narrative of a revamped Niners secondary being capable of finally forcing turnovers.

On top of that, opposing quarterbacks are posting a mere 28.2 passer rating when targeting Ward in coverage, again justifying San Francisco’s investment in him and alleviating any concerns about the cornerback room being a primary weakness.
Granted, Ward and the 49ers defense have yet to face some prolific offenses, and they will later this season.
So far, however, Ward is proving his value handsomely.
