Isaiah Foskey and Will Anderson could be day-one starters for the 49ers.

Six-foot-five, 260-pound Isaiah Foskey had a monster season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2021 (52 tackles including 9.5 for a loss of yardage, ten sacks, and six forced fumbles). This after stacking 20 tackles and five sacks in 2020.

If he continues the upswing and dominates again in 2022, he’ll be on everyone’s list of the NFL’s top five defensive end prospects in next year’s draft.

You have to be special if you’re going to walk into Nick Saban’s program and become a day-one starter, and Will Anderson has proven that he qualifies, notching 153 tackles during his first two seasons (28 games) as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Add that to 24.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble, and it’s easy to see why he’ll be on everyone’s preseason watchlist.

As is the case with Foskey, if the Niners are in a position to land him, that would mean San Francisco’s season didn’t go as planned, but they’ll want to keep tabs on him. The day he shows up he’d be the best edge rusher on the roster not named Nick Bosa. He’s a future star in the making.
