With two weeks now in the books, 49ers training camp has revealed some notable standouts who are certainly impressing a lot heading towards the 2022 season.

San Francisco 49ers training camp has revealed no shortage of key storylines over the first two weeks, and understandably so.

Quarterback Trey Lance has been a must-watch player. And while he has had some up-and-down moments, it’s safe to say what’s appearing to be an excellent Niners defense is making life difficult on him.

“Iron sharpens iron,” or so they say.

Lance understandably commands a lot of attention as he works his way towards being San Francisco’s full-time starter. Yet the first two weeks of 49ers training camp is also revealing a number of other notable standouts, too.

Particularly these five who have made the most out of practices to date.

49ers training camp standout No. 5: Running back Jordan Mason

Usually, undrafted players don’t receive a lot of attention during camp, yet it’s easy to root for these underdog players.

In the case of former Georgia Tech running back Jordan Mason, who ultimately wasn’t drafted this year, his ascent up the Niners news wire has been pretty exceptional. Combing through nearly every practice report, the 5-foot-11, 223-pound Mason has been a standout in one way or another.

San Francisco already has a crowded running back depth chart with Elijah Mitchell and fellow rookie Tyrion Davis-Price all but guaranteed spots and roles, while second-year pro Trey Sermon has looked like he’s poised for a rebound, too.

Instead, Mason is seriously challenging both fringe tailbacks on the 49ers roster, Jeff Wilson Jr. and JaMycal Hasty, and it might be far too tough for the Niners to leave the undrafted free agent off the 53-man roster this season.
