49ers training camp issue No. 2: Trey Lance experiencing growing pains

Again, going back to the understanding of the 49ers defense being ahead of the offense to begin training camp applies here, so any struggles second-year quarterback Trey Lance might be going through over the first week-plus have to be taken with some context.

However, Lance has tossed an interception on all but the first day of camp practices. In itself, this isn’t overly alarming, and perhaps it’s a good thing for him to actually push the ball and take some risks for a change. Working out the kinks in practice will ultimately help. And mixed in with some of the mistakes, Lance has also made some brilliant throws like the one below:

Having completed roughly 50 percent of his passes through camp so far, one might like to see Lance reach a point where he’s taking over the offense.

Instead, at least so far, some of the results have yielded the splash plays one might come to expect from a quarterback with insane talents.

However, those have also been in parallel with some of the growing pains that are likely to accompany Lance during his first year as a starter, and the final issue on this list might be impacting Lance’s development in other ways, too.
