49ers training camp: What we learned with Week 1 in the books
Week 1 of 49ers training camp is over, and already there’s quite a lot for San Francisco fans to mull over as we move over to Week 2.
With training camp well and truly underway, the time is now for San Francisco 49ers fans to endlessly fawn over every tidbit of news that emanates from there as we eagerly await the first preseason game.
And if you’re one of those fans, then you’ve truly come to the right place when it comes to dissecting training camp.
As a bit of precautionary advice, it’s hard to get too carried away until the pads come on properly in Week 2, and so quite a lot of what’s happened isn’t necessarily applicable for down the line.

Quite a lot, but not everything. There has been quite a bit of interesting goings-on during the week, and we’ll get started with the most obvious.
What we learned from 49ers training camp: Deebo Samuel is here to stay
The biggest Niners story entering training camp, other than potentially Jimmy Garoppolo and whether or not he’ll be traded or cut, was the contract holdout of wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Well, it didn’t take very long, as Samuel has finally signed on the dotted line on a three-year contract extension worth up to $73.5 million with $58.1 million guaranteed, as reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Obviously, this is a big bonus for San Francisco to erase this storyline so it can focus on the upcoming season, and the team locked up an All-Pro talent for a contract that’s on par with the other wide receiver contracts that were handed out the past few months.
The difference, however, is Samuel has an All-Pro accolade on his résumé already.
Samuel has made no secret he wishes to be a wide receiver and not a “wide back” as he was used last season, a reason why an early draft pick was spent on running back Ty Davis-Price, so his stats may not quite be as big as last season as he builds a rapport with quarterback Trey Lance.
A big bonus for the first week of camp.
