49ers training camp: Who’s hot, who’s not after first week of practice
By Peter Panacy
Hot: 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward
The 49ers also threw resources to upgrade their cornerback room this offseason. But, unlike the offensive line, those investments at cornerback are beginning to pay off nicely.
Especially veteran Charvarius Ward, whom the Niners grabbed in free agency from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ward has been an absolute training camp standout, wrapping up day four of practices with yet another interception, baiting backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld on a pass intended for wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud.
Not to be outdone in camp, fellow corner Emmanuel Moseley has also been impressive in coverage and hasn’t allowed any big plays yet either, and this suggests the one-two boundary tandem of Ward and Moseley will be what San Francisco rolls with to start the season.
There are still some questions with regards to the nickel cornerback spot, though.
