No. 2: 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel

As things stand now, San Francisco hasn’t reached an agreement on what should be a lucrative contract extension with All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Still, with the expectation a deal gets done, why should Samuel carry a chip on his shoulder? After all, he’s going to get paid in the realm of the top-paid receivers anyway, right?

Few 49ers players received as much attention during the offseason as Samuel. This is partially due to his own doing, as a prior trade request certainly shook up the waters and caused no shortage of controversy. And in the wake of an All-Pro campaign last year in which he recorded a whopping 1,770 all-purpose yards, he might not feel his value is totally appreciated.

New contract or not, Samuel won’t just want to show the Niners why he’s worth every penny he’ll ultimately receive. No, he’ll also want to also showcase to the rest of the league why he should be viewed as one of the top-five wide receivers going right now.

Assuming San Francisco winds up dishing out that massive contract, Samuel responding in kind with yet another standout year is probably a good thing.
