Going into this season, it has been the expectation that Trey Lance would be the team’s starting quarterback following a whirlwind of trade rumors regarding Jimmy Garoppolo.
Confidence is the key that makes the engine go for young quarterbacks, so one should believe Lance has the right to feel secure in his position with no reason to look over his shoulder. As long as Jimmy G remains on the roster, though, Lance can be as free and secure.
True, Kyle Shanahan told reporters at the start of training camp that Lance was going to be the guy moving forward.

A step in the right direction, sufficient to prevent potential chemistry issues for this upcoming season? It remains to be seen.
Deebo Samuel is at training camp, which is fantastic amid earlier worries he’d hold out in light of extension disputes. But where does he stand today with San Francisco? How disgruntled is he possibly going to be if talks stall? Could the issues that troubled him with the 49ers during the offseason spill into the team’s chemistry? These are valid questions concerning the Niners and their seemingly rocky chemistry and could equal a disastrous season.
The Niners must maneuver carefully toward their keystone players to avoid a devastating season, given their already delicate states.
