Did the 49ers hit or reach on their last top-10 NFL Draft picks? We take a look at the last six times they drafted in the top 10 and answer that question.

In recent years, the San Francisco 49ers have picked an awful lot in the top-10 of the NFL Draft. As a matter of fact, they’ve had six top-10 selections in the last 12 drafts.

When the Niners have been good, they have been among the league’s best, making it as far as the NFC Championship game and even to the Super Bowl twice in the last decade.

However, when they have had bad years like the two “one-and-done” seasons with head coaches Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly, it’s been pretty catastrophic and led to high draft picks.

Let’s also not forgot about the 2018 season in which quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL in Week 3 and the team finished 4-12.

So, when things go wrong. they go really wrong for San Francisco.

After those catastrophic seasons, though, the 49ers received very high draft picks in the following seasons.

How well did the Niners do with drafting in the top 10 in recent years? There’s a lot that goes into an NFL team’s front office decisions on draft day. However, whenever a team picks in the top 10, there is going to be heavy criticism. Were those prospects a reach in the top 10? Were they a steal at the spot they got taken in? Or were they right where they belonged?

Many times, those players’ rookie seasons are a testament to the front offices of their teams. So, here we take a look at the last six drafts in which San Francisco picked in the top 10 and determine whether it was a hit or a reach.
