49ers training camp question No. 2: Will Trey Lance finally take off?

There are the holdouts who believe Jimmy Garoppolo still gives San Francisco its best option to win games. But, make no mistake, the 49ers are fully invested in Trey Lance. That was made known by last year’s aggressive trade-up. It has to be.

Now, the only remaining question between now and Week 1 is whether or not Lance will rise to the occasion, or will he wind up being overwhelmed by the moment and showing more struggles than the expected growing pains?

Garoppolo potentially looming over his shoulder is one thing, and the Niners likely want to avoid that.

However, the entire context of Lance’s situation will be revealed when practices increase in intensity from the padless, no real pass-rush kind of work he saw during organized team activities and minicamp.

Granted, Lance looked just fine in those workouts, which is what’s to be expected.
