49ers roster: 4 UDFAs who could actually make 53-man squad this year

49ers UDFA No. 3: Offensive lineman Jason Poe
It was already clear the 49ers had interest in small-school offensive lineman Jason Poe out of Mercer, holding a pre-NFL Draft meeting with him.
Poe, a former fullback, moves exceptionally well despite having to bulk up to 300 pounds to assume duties for the offensive line. And while he might need a good deal of refinement at the pro level, he’s already drawing praise from some of the more well-known Niners players.
Including All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams:
“The first time he came off the ball in individual [drills], I was like, ‘damn, who is that?'” Williams told reporters, via John Chapman of the 49ers Rush Podcast. “… the first step off the ball, it’s extremely quick.”
San Francisco’s starting crop of linemen, aside from the need to find a starting center in the wake of Alex Mack’s retirement, is pretty much set.
The depth, however, is very much in the air. And while the 49ers used two draft picks on O-linemen, Spencer Burford in Round 4 and Nick Zakelj in Round 6, Poe might have enough clout and physical prowess to leapfrog many of the other names on the depth chart vying to be a primary reserve during the regular season.
