6 former 49ers from 2021 who are still surprisingly free agents

Former 49ers free-agent No. 5: Wide receiver Travis Benjamin
There might have been some cautious optimism when San Francisco inked veteran wide receiver Travis Benjamin entering 2020, particularly in light of back-to-back quality seasons in 2015 and 2016 with the Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers, respectively, before injuries and other setbacks curtailed his time in Southern California.
However, the pandemic put a damper on Benjamin’s first year with the 49ers, as he elected to opt out.
Still, the Niners were hoping to get that true speed threat capable of stretching the field. And despite him being 31 years old at the start of the 2021 season, Benjamin could still bring that X-factor.
At least in theory.
Despite some modest production during the preseason, Benjamin finished last year’s campaign with a mere five targets, hauling in none of those pass attempts over 10 games played.
Considering the massive influx of talented wideouts via the last few NFL Draft classes, it might be hard for the elder Benjamin to latch on with a new team in 2021.
