Toughest road game on 49ers schedule No. 2: Week 3 @ Broncos

It’s fitting the NFL would schedule a prime-time game between San Francisco and its longtime nemesis, now-Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Broncos already feature a good enough defense, one that made our list of the toughest defenses on the 49ers schedule this season, especially if familiar-face former Niners such as nose tackle D.J. Jones and cornerback K’Waun Williams make an impact. That’d be another matchup to watch aside from Wilson trying to improve his career record over San Francisco to 18-4.

However, that’s not the sole reason why Week 3’s Sunday Night Football matchup is the second most-difficult bout on the 49ers schedule this year.

Week 3 will mark the second of four road games the Niners have to kick off the season. It’s become something of a San Francisco tradition, trying to avoid those early late-summer games at Levi’s Stadium where the heat is notable, especially on the eastern concourses, but playing four games out of six on the road to open up the year, highlighted by visiting a Wilson-led Broncos team with nothing short of an AFC West crown in its sights is still a major challenge.

In front of a national audience no less.
