Toughest road game on 49ers schedule No. 3: Week 17 @ Raiders

It’s been a while since San Francisco considered the Las Vegas Raiders a legitimate threat on the field, and the last time these two teams met back in 2018, the 49ers got the upper hand on a Thursday Night Football showdown, albeit both teams weren’t exactly boasting of their respective records at the time.

OK, so Las Vegas is arguably the weakest of all four teams in the AFC West. But it still is a potent bunch, especially if second-time-around head coach Josh McDaniels finally corrects the gaffes he had from his first coaching stint with the Denver Broncos years ago.

It should be easier. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr emerged as a true leader amid all the chaos Las Vegas endured last season, helping guide his team into the postseason when few thought it possible.

Tack on the offseason additions of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams and EDGE Chandler Jones, and the Raiders played right along with the AFC West’s arms race.

Those two alone will make Week 17 a notable challenge on the 49ers schedule this season, yet one might figure the Faithful could travel in droves to Sin City to help root on the red and gold, helping tip the balance a little bit.
